Ep #61 The curse of being good at everything

When we’re good at everything, it might seem like a blessing, especially if you’re a solopreneur but it can also be a curse because we tend ending up doing it all!

We end up doing the 50 bucks an hour tasks that we should actually be outsourcing so that we can focus on and action the tasks of the business owner or the entrepreneur.

Just because we can do it all doesn’t mean we should.

We often hide behind figuring things out so that we can avoid the tasks we know we should be doing but that feel uncomfortable or scare us.

There is also another component to this and it is the shiny objects you notice as you’re going. We notice the many new opportunities that are available to us and since we’re good at it, we tend to add extra services or even entire businesses to our schedules simply because we can.

There is definitely nothing wrong with being multipassionate or having more than one business, the problem is that when we’re not intentional with what we give our attention and energy to, we can quickly end up overextinging ourselves and burn ourselves out.

It also takes a ton of time to switch between one task to the next, or one business to the next, which puts a huge damper on our productivity and ultimate progress.

Progress and momentum is the lifeblood of the entrepreneur.

If we’re not careful, we keep ourselves stuck in a cycle of doing the non essential, sometimes even procrastinating on implementing systems and processes, or hiring people to help because it’s faster to do it ourselves than create the system and teach someone how to do it.

It is a blessing to be good at everything you do, but don’t fall into the trap of thinking that you’re the only one who can do it well.

Here are 6 tips for making sure you don’t get distracted by the shiny objects or get lost in doing it all yourself.

  • Have a goal. Know what you’re focusing on.

  • Systems and processes for everything. Even if you’re a solopreneur.

  • GET HELP sooner than you think.

  • Stop thinking you’re the only person for the job. You’re business is not unique.

  • Know what the needle moving activities is. (Ep 56) but also know what YOU bring to the table.

  • Take care of you!

If you’re ready to focus on the essential and spend your time on what matters in both life and business, let’s talk about how my 6-month coaching season can help you achieve more while doing less.
