We’re just over a week into the last quarter of the year! There is still lots of time for you to end the year strong! This episode was inspired by the quarterly goal workshop I hosted inside my coaching membership, The School of Less Effort. We have goal setting workshops every quarter where we look at what your specific goal is, and then we create your best guess plan for achieving it in the next 90 days.

Something I have noticed is that we tend to create these elaborate plans for our goals. We put lots of steps between us and achieving the goal.

If you’re anything like me, you love to overcomplicate things. I have learned to create my best guess plan and then take a step back to ask myself whether there is a way to execute the plan simply. I look at which pieces of the plan I can remove so that there are fewer pieces that need to come together in order to create the result. I also look at where my brain is offering me new things to add as a distraction or a buffer.

When we have fewer pieces. When the plan is simple, it typically feels more doable. When a plan is simple and doable, you are 100% more likely to actually follow through on that plan!

What are your business pieces?

When I create a plan for achieving my goal I start with the existing pieces of my business. The things that I already do inside my business to meet people, nurture those people, and sell to those people.

Here’s a breakdown of the pieces I focus on in my business:

  1. Instagram

  2. My podcast

  3. My weekly emails

  4. Consultation calls (I host consultation calls because I want to get to know you, I want to understand your biggest challenges and also what exactly you want to achieve so that I can offer you the best solution for your specific situation.

  5. Occasional Workshops where I share my thoughts on specific topics and teach you the mindset and strategy that has helped me and my clients to create our goals in business.

  6. Each of these pieces exist because they allow me to meet people, nurture the people who are in my world (but who might not be completely ready to buy from me, yet), and to sell to the people who are.

When we create a plan, we typically think we need to add more moving pieces to the puzzle.

We add more platforms (think YouTube, TikTok, Threads…), we add more offers or services. Our focus becomes on doing more instead of looking at how we can do less, better.

The problem with adding more pieces is that we’re also then adding more decisions to be made. More decisions leads to more indecision, and ultimately, exhaustion.

The more steps we put between ourselves and the goal we want to achieve, the more distraction we create and before we know it, we’ve gone down a rabbit hole where we feel so overwhelmed with this plan that we simply ditch it!

This is why most goals never see the light of day!

It’s natural for your brain to offer you the thought:

“It’s not enough.”

It’s going to tell you that you should be doing more. That it can’t be that simple or that easy.

But…what if it could?

What if you entertained the idea that it could be easy? That it could be simple?

When we allow ourselves to keep things simple, it creates space to master the pieces we currently have in our business and instead of always acting based on our emotions, we can now look at the data and make data driven decisions.

When we constrain the actions we’re going to take to achieve our goal to only our current business pieces it allows us to explore all the options, all the possibilities contained within those pieces

How to create your best guess plan:

  1. Define your current business pieces. What are the things you do in your business currently to create clients. (How do you meet people, nurture or build relationships with those people, and sell to those people.)

  2. Ask yourself what has worked in the past? What have you tried in the past that worked? Let’s do more of that!

  3. Is there a piece of your business that you would like to improve on with this goal? Remember, setting a goal is not a one and done thing. Every time you set a goal and take action to create it, you’re solidifying the pieces of your business. You’re improving your skill, deepening your understanding, and learning what works and what doesn’t for your person.

  4. What is the simplest way I can achieve this goal? Looking at your current business pieces, what is the simplest way you can achieve this goal?

Remember, when we set goals, and we create a plan. We don’t know if the plan will work. We decide what we’re going to do and then the work is sticking to the plan! Your brain will offer you lots of thoughts in the process! Which is what makes coaching such a powerful tool to have in your pocket as a business owner.

This is the work we do inside the School of Less Effort:

  1. We decide what your goal is for the next 90 days.

  2. We get clear on what your current essential business pieces are

  3. We create a plan of action that’s doable, and simple

  4. And then I coach your mind every single week so that you can stay on track. I will help you solve the problems your brain is worried about so that you can move forward toward your goal without all the internal resistance that’s causing you to stop going for it.

The doors to The School of Less Effort are open, and when you join during the month of October, you are going to receive a free business clarity session with me where I will help you simplify your business so that you can do less and achieve more.
