Ep #71 What You Want vs. What You Are Getting

Your self concept is everything. 


It determines…


  • what you have in your reality 

  • you experience your life

  • how you approach things,

  • it has a direct impact on what you do and don’t do…which ultimately creates results for you.


The question is whether you’re getting the results you want or results that you don’t want. 


The answer to this question is an indication of where your self-concept is.


What is a self-concept?


It’s who you believe yourself to be.


It’s the labels you have accepted.


It’s also your dominant thoughts and the things you believe about yourself and about the world.


And since you take yourself with you wherever you go, it matters where this self-concept is.


When things aren’t working in our life the first thing that pops into our head is NOT…


“Oh! I need to work on my self-concept.”. 


Instead, we focus on the symptoms and we try to fix it by taking much of the same action. 


And when those actions don’t help, we think things like:


“This is not working”


“I am not losing weight.”


“This is hopeless.”


“I am not signing clients.”


“I am not in the right relationship.”


This is partly because it’s easy to blame the world or the other person, or even ourselves. 


But the biggest reason why we get stuck is because we are not focusing on the one thing that will make the biggest difference.


Who WE are being. Our self-concept.


Where do we start?


The way we shift our self-concept is by elevating our perspective. 


Think of your self concept as you are either at street level or at the top of a high rise building, in a city you don’t know. (With no GPS).


When you are at street level, you can only see a couple of blocks ahead and behind you. You don’t really know where you are, how far away you are from the best attractions. You might be a couple of minutes away from one and if you’re not aware of it, you could head in the wrong direction and never reach it.


When you’re on the top floor with a 360 degree view however, and you can see the whole city, things change. Suddenly you know where you are, where you are going, and exactly how long it’s going to take.


If you don’t have the results you want yet, it’s because your self-concept is at the street level.


To achieve your goals means you need to elevate your self-concept to what it would be if you were already at that goal.


This means you need to BE the person who achieves the goal.


You need to have the beliefs that person would have, think the way that person would think, and more importantly, do the things that person would do.



So imagine for a minute that your goal has become your reality.


How would you be different? 


How would you show up?


How would you talk about your business and what you do? 


What would your clients experience when you show up from that place?


Elevate your self concept by spending time with who and how you need to be.
